GIA Diamond Essentials Practice Exam – Prep Guide & Practice Questions

The procedure followed when receiving jewelry for repair is known as "Take-in." This term specifically refers to the process of registering and receiving an item when it is brought in for service, such as repair or cleaning. During the Take-in process, detailed information about the jewelry, including its condition, any specific issues, and customer instructions, is documented to ensure a smooth and accountable repair process. This step is vital for maintaining proper records and for managing customer expectations regarding the repair timeline and care.

In contrast, the term "Assessment" typically refers to evaluating the condition and value of an item but doesn't specifically denote the process of receiving it. "Authentication" involves verifying the legitimacy or quality of a piece, commonly in contexts involving gemological evaluations, while "Delivery" usually refers to the return of the repaired item to the customer, not the initial intake of the jewelry for repair.
